SDCC' 12 | A roundup of pre-con con news
Comic-Con International in San Diego may officially open today (last night was Preview Night), but the news has been rolling in for awhile. So let's take a look at what's been announced thus far.
' Of course you can't have Comic-Con without news about Comic-Con itself. CBR's Kiel Phegley spoke with CCI's David Glanzer about the show, while Ryan Ingram spoke with Scott Morse about the Tr!ckster satellite event. And it seems like every non-comics media outlet reports on the show in some form or fashion; here's an article by The Christian Post about religion and the show, for example. And finally, Tuesday brought the tragic news that a con attendee camping out for today's Twilight panel was killed in front of the convention center after being struck by a car.
' I'm not 100 percent sure if it qualifies as Comic-Con news, but since it was officially announced in the Entertainment Weekly Comic-Con issue, let's just go with it. Marvel's big news going into the Con is that they plan to relaunch several titles later this year as part of 'Marvel NOW!' Their recently released solicitations reveal they plan to cancel nine titles in October, but of course you can expect many if not all of them to come back in some form or fashion as Marvel NOW! rolls out.
' Mike Mignola and Hellboy return this December in Hellboy in Hell, the first four-issue miniseries in a series of miniseries about the title character's post-demise adventures.
' Brian Wood and Carlos d'Anda are working on a new Star Wars title for Dark Horse called, simply, Star Wars. The comic is set between the original Star Wars movie and the Empire Strikes Back.
' Top Cow will relaunch Cyber Force not only as a print and digital comic, but also a free one funded by the online crowd sourcing website Kickstarter.
' J. Michael Straczynski will relaunch his 'Joe's Comics' imprint next spring at Image Comics as part of a bigger Studio JMS initiative that also has film, TV and digital media projects in the works.
' Dynamite Comics will launch a crossover series called Masks this November, featuring their various pulp characters.
' Gene Simmons, meanwhile, is relaunching his Simmons Comics Group imprint at Arcana Comics.
' Joe Harris and Martin Morazzo's Great Pacific has been picked up by Image Comics. The first issue arrives in November.
' Bongo Comics Group will publish a comic based on the latest Coldplay album, Mylo Xyloto.
' The publisher also announced a new comiXology app for their flagship comic, The Simpsons. The app goes live later today.
' Ian Flynn, Chuck Dixon and Mike Norton will contribute to a series of short stories set in Archie's Crusaders universe under the title The Lost Crusade.
' Brandon Seifert and Ibraim Roberson are working on a four-issue series for BOOM! about Clive Barker's Pinhead character, titled Hellraiser: The Road Below.
' Skybound announced a new title by David Schulner and Juan Jose Ryp called Clone.
' Fantagraphics is celebrating the 30th anniversary of Love and Rockets with a new line of T-shirts they're selling at the con. Also expect some L&R related news on Saturday.
' Ape Entertainment announced two new comics based on mobile games ' Squids and Temple Run.
' Nate Powell will draw March, the autobiography of U.S. Congressman John Lewis, a former Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee chairman and legendary veteran of the Civil Rights Movement. Top Shelf will publish the graphic novel next year.
' Archie and MAC Cosmetics have teamed up for a new cosmetic line.
' Skelton Crew Studio, which makes replicas of the Locke & Key keys, is working on Chew-related merchandise.
' Rocksteady is reportedly working on a prequel to its Batman: Arkham Asylum game that will feature Batman's first meeting with the Joker, as well as the Justice League.
' Guy Gardner will appear in the second season of the Green Lantern cartoon.
' Content House and Top Cow Productions are teaming to bring Raffaele Ienco's supernatural thriller Manifestations to the big screen.

Great job covering the con so far, JK! I've been using you as a ticklist to make sure I haven't been missing anything. Only four more days to go!
So weird. I was thinking just yesterday about how I wish Bongo Comics sold digital issues. And voila! Now I wish I had a million dollars.
