Batman to appear in Smallville comic book

Batman to appear in Smallville comic book

It was something the producers could never do on the television show for reasons that probably make a lot of sense to somebody, but the comics don't have the same restrictions: As DC Comics' September solicitations reveal, the Smallville Season 11 digital-first comic will feature Superman's first meeting with ' Batman.

'I feel like I've been sitting on a Christmas present for everyone since January,' Smallville Season 11 scribe Bryan Q. Miller, who was a staff writer and executive story editor for The CW series, said on his blog. According to the solicitation text for the story arc, appropriately titled 'Detective,' 'The hunt for his parents' killer puts a vigilante known only as 'the Batman' on a collision course with the Man of Steel.'

Smallville ended more than a year ago after 10 seasons, returning for Season 11 in comic book form this past spring. Written by Miller and drawn by Pere Perez, the comic can be downloaded weekly from DC's various mobile apps before it's printed in comic form. Check out some artwork featuring the redesigned Batman and the solicitation text for September's Smallville Season 11 #5 below.

Should be fun!

This Batman looks really bad and why does Robin have a sword.

So, we're getting a female Robin to boot too? Gotta see a colored version first, but the redesign, especially the cowl, isn't doing much for me.

I don't think it's a sword, judging from all of the electricity coming off of the end. Looks more like a stun stick.

Surprised he is not wearing a hoody.

Besides Batman's costume this should be good, looking forward to seeing Wonder Woman next.

Looks like a piece of shit.

Okay, this is where I come to this graphic after reading way too many comics for way too many years. Back in the early 70's, there was a Superboy story in which Clark finds a young hero who is still trying to find himself. It was Bruce Wayne, still dealing with rage over his parents' murder, calling himself the Executioner. Superboy catches up with him and cool's Bruce's jets a little.

Now, this isn't a Superboy story, but it is a story about a new Superman. He hasn't worn the tights forever. I've always hoped that when Smallville's version of Big Blue met Bruce Wayne, SOMEONE would remember that ancient Superboy story and update it a little.

As Dana Carvey's old impression of Pres. George H. W. Bush would say, 'Na ga happa. Na ga happa.'
